Orange food for World Cup 2014

Last time, I have shown you the orange food that I ate during King's day and besides that occasion, we can also find a lot of orange food in the stores and orange decorations everywhere, when our national soccer team plays in a big international tournament. The large fountain in Rotterdam had started to spray out orange colored water and many soccer fans go there to take a dip in the cooling water to celebrate a victory. Sadly, the Dutch soccer team had lost against Argentina, but I still remember the exciting soccer matches that they have given us and the fun I had watching the soccer matches together with a lot of people in my living room with a lot of yummy snacks. In this blog post, I will show you two of the things that we ate.

Albert Heijn oranje soesjes (orange mini cream puffs)

After, the delicious Albert Heijn Easter cream puffs, they now created the special edition, orange colored, World Cup 2014 cream puffs with the cute hamster mascots on top. There is also a funny quote on the packaging: "De beste 11 zijn opgesteld.", which you can interpret as they have put the best 11 soccer players on the field, but also that you have placed the best 11 cream puffs on the table. ^_^

The cream puffs were really tasty; the cream was very rich and fluffy and the chocolate tasted really nice like white chocolate without any strange flavors that you might get from the coloring. I didn't see it at first glance, but there are two kinds of hamsters. The one on the right actually has red lipstick on her lips and long eyelashes, so there is a male and female version.

Albert Heijn oranje donuts

We also bought these festive orange donuts. The donuts have an orange frosting and hard sugar sprinkles in red, white, and blue (our national flag colors). They tasted freshly made and they had a bit of chewiness. The not too sweet, hard (breath mint like hardness, but without the mint flavor) sprinkles added a nice crunch to the otherwise entirely soft donut. The quote on the packaging, "Door het oog van de naald", translates to "through the eye of a needle" and it means "escaping failure by a slight margin". This really was the case in the match against Costa Rica. We had to put in Tim Krul,  the "Penalty Killer", to get us through to the next match.

In half an hour, the soccer match for the third place will start and although I want our team to leave the tournament with a spectacular win, the Brazilian team also deserve to conclude the World Cup held in their home country with dignity. So, may the best team win. ^_^
