Review: Marks and Spencer (birthday) treats

The following three cakes that I am about to show you aren't only great for birthdays, but also for other kinds of parties. If you bring all three, I am sure you are going to be the star of the party. I will start with the cake that I like the most out of three.

Marks and Spencer Chocolatey piece of cake

At first, this looked like a big tray of brownies, but I was surprised to find out that it is actually a chocolate sponge cake drizzled with chocolate sauce and covered with a thick layer of chocolate fudge. On top, you can find many crunchy chocolate stars and crispy chocolate curls in white, milk, and dark chocolate. Chocolate fans would love this.

I also like that you only need to use a knife and follow the lines in the fudge, to cut 15 pieces of cake. It is totally fool-proof!

 Marks and Spencer Fondant fancies

I personally don't like overly sweet things, so this really isn't for me. But these fondant fancies are so pretty that only looking at them will already make you happy. If you insist on eating them, I would recommend taking the yellow ones, which have a lemon flavor and the zesty flavor makes the sweetness easier to bear. The pink ones are strawberry flavored and the brown ones are chocolate flavored. Under the layer of sweet fondant, you will find a cube of soft sponge cake with a round dot of buttercream on top.

From the looks of it, I thought this was going to be a firm cake with a sweet layer of fondant on top. But I was surprised by how soft and moist the lemon cake was and the fondant on top wasn't just sugary, but it had a very nice hint of lemon. I am really biased to lemon flavored desserts, so I cannot name any flaws to this. I have often went back to the Marks and Spencer stores just to get this cake and I ate a slice of it on normal days too, not just during parties.
