It has been a while since I last went shopping in Rotterdam city center. Everything changed so much. The thing I miss the most is the V&D department store. Although I didn't really buy much there as their offering wasn't really my taste, I liked the warmth and the scent of delicious food that always seem to linger there. I hope something interesting will come in place of it. Although a lot of stores disappeared, there are also a lot of new things to discover: a temporary ferris wheel, a Søstrene Grene store, and an unique Pimp your burger option at McDonalds (Coolsingel 207, above metro station Beurs).
Temporary ferris wheel near the Markthal Rotterdam
From March 12 - April 10, there will be a 55 metre high ferris wheel with 42 cabins for 6 persons each near the
Markthal. It is open from 10:00 - 21:00 (except on thursdays until 22:00 and Friday-Sunday until 23:00). Adults pay €6 and children (3-13 years old) pay €4. I looked at it and the ferris wheel isn't as high as I thought (I went in higher ones in Japan) and it moved quite fast.
Søstrene grene store in Rotterdam
On Friday 15 April, a Søstrene grene store will open on Hoogstraat 183B (previously, it was a Dolcis shoe store). I have always wanted to visit a
Søstrene grene store as it has the prettiest interior decorating products.
Pimp your burger at McDonalds
At the McDonalds located at Coolsingel 207 (above the metro station Beurs), you can now pimp your own burger. What it means is that you can customize your burger (Quarter Pounder, McChicken, Filet-O-Fish and McKroket) the way you want. In Rotterdam, you can only do this in this restaurant. You go to the big electronic screens at the entrance of the restaurant, select the burger you want, add the ingredients that you want (choose from: beef, chicken, fish, kroket, bacon, cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, nacho chips, jalapeños, onion, Quarter Pounder sauce, tartar sauce, McKroket sauce, and McChicken sauce). You can pay electronically and pick up your order at the counter.
