Marks & Spencer: chocolate and lemon cheesecakes

After showing you the delicious chocolate eclairs and Portugese egg tarts, I have two kinds of Mark & Spencer cheesecakes today, in the flavors: Chocolate & vanilla and Lemon & ricotta. I don't know why, but even though I am a person who prefers savory over sweet food, I always seem to come back home from the Marks & Spencer store with bags filled with cakes and sweets. It once got so bad that I could barely lift the bags. It was one of my first visits and everything looked so delicious that I couldn't leave them behind. It also didn't help that I was shopping with an empty stomach, but luckily, the tram stop wasn't that far away in Amsterdam (Yes, I took a tram ride of a few stops back to Central station, even though it is totally walkable. It was that heavy!). I don't visit Amsterdam that often and I can't get similar cakes and sweets at the local supermarket, so it made it extra urgent for me to buy it right there and then.

It took me quite some time to limit the number of cheesecakes that I was going to buy to two, but I can say that I definitely made the right choice with the chocolate & vanilla cheesecake. It has a delicious, crunchy chocolate biscuit base with coarse grains of salt in it, a firm and creamy chocolate and vanilla center with a hint of tartness similar to yogurt, and a sticky and rich dark chocolate ganache on top. When they say rich, they really mean it. Most of the times, when I buy cakes and desserts and they call it something like, "triple chocolate delight", you cannot really distinguish the different chocolate flavors and they just all taste very similar. But with this cheesecake, I could really easily taste the different chocolate and vanilla flavors. You must have a slice of this!

Serving instructions: Run a sharp knife around the inside of the plastic container, push the cheesecake up through the hole on the bottom and remove the cardboard base. Slice up the cheesecake in 6 servings.

Marks & Spencer Lemon & ricotta cheesecake

I just love lemon cheesecakes, so this one was easy to pick. The Chocolate & vanilla cheesecake was more of a risk, as it can easily be too sweet (which I hate!) and too monotonous in flavor. Surely, Marks and Spencer didn't let me down with the Lemon & ricotta cheesecake either. I cannot find any flaws. A nice, crumbly and buttery base, a very lemony cheesecake center, and a zesty lemon glace on top. This is how lemon cheesecakes should taste like.

If you can only get one cheesecake from the Marks & Spencer store, I would recommend the Chocolate & vanilla cheesecake more, because the flavors are more interesting. You can also get an amazing lemon cheesecake like this at the better bakeries.
