Testing my Canon EOS M50 at Diergaarde Blijdorp (zoo)
As you might have seen on my Instagram account, I am currently testing out a new camera, the Canon EOS M50. I had already tried it out for a bit, but I really put it to a test during my recent visit to the local zoo, Diergaarde Blijdorp.
During the summer, the zoo has extended their opening hours on certain days until 21:30 or 22:00. As it is still bright outside until at least 21:00, you can really get the most out of your ticket. I went on 19th July and it was a special ZOOmeravond. A ticket was only €8.95 (+€1.50 transaction costs per online order) through uitjekrant.nl, while it is normally €23 (when you buy it from their official website: €21.50), and it granted me entrance to the zoo from 15:00 - 22:00. The second and last ZOOmeravond in July, on which you can visit the zoo at a heavily discounted rate is on 27th July. I bought my tickets the day before, so if you are lucky, you can still get them on the day itself. If you missed out on that, you can still visit during the ZOOmeravonden every Thursday in August. The ticket is however more expensive, €16.50 (from 15:00 - 21:00) at the official website of Diergaarde Blijdorp zoo.
It wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be, since most people visit during the morning and leave around 15:00. It was quite comfortable to walk around in the zoo, as we often seemed to be the only ones there, and at the animal living quarters, there wasn't a lot of people in front of me, blocking my view. The only discomfort is that certain areas of the zoo are heated for the animals and with this heat wave that we are currently having in the Netherlands, it becomes unbearable. Luckily, there was air conditioning at the oceanium, my favorite part of the zoo, which I visited twice that day.
I went to the zoo around 15:30 and left around 20:00. I really took my time to watch the animals to my heart's content and I was able to have short rests on the ample benches every now and then. I actually didn't take a whole lot of pictures. I mainly walked around filming with the cool 4K camera. You will see the results of that soon.
