Review: Bourjois Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick - Orange Punch

When I saw that the Bourjois Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipsticks had an orange color (03 Orange Punch), I naturally had to go buy it. ^_^ After seeing the pretty pictures of the recently introduced Holika Holika Neon Beam Tintbars and the Banila co. the Kissest lip crayons, my hands were already itching to get a neon lip crayon. Products from those Korean brands are a bit difficult to get for me, so it was great that I could just get this one from a local cosmetics store.

The stick

The Bourjois Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick - 03 Orange Punch has a very bright, neon orange exterior. The stick is exactly the same size as a Clinique Chubby Stick. But I feel that the metallic end and the twist mechanism of the Clinique Chubby Stick is of higher quality than the one from Bourjois. I don't know how to explain this exactly, but when you twist the one from Bourjois, it feels very light (not much counter force). It is less responsive than the one from Clinique, you need to twist a lot more for it to move up a little. The metallic print also faded very fast, while the one on my Clinique Chubby Stick looks as new even after a year or so.

It is a bit unfair to compare them as their price differ a lot, but I thought it was nice to compare them as they look very similar and I happen to own both.

What it promises to do

On the stick, you can read that it promises to have a waterproof color, to provide comfort and hydration for 10 hours, to have a SPF of 15, and also to give you "bare lip sensation" (I believe they mean something like it feels as great as having bare lips? ^_^).

The lipstick looks very dark orange, but let's see how it looks swatched.

Swatches of the Bourjois Color Boost - 03 Orange Punch

I have first swatched it on my arm: on the right (one light swipe) and on the left (three swipes). When you apply it lightly, it looks like a salmon pink, but you can build the color up to a dark grapefruit pink/red.

Unlike what I first thought, it didn't have a yummy orange scent, but a rather powdery scent with a hint of orange. On the lips, it feels very light as promised and it is comparable to a lip butter at first, but slowly, you barely feel it on your lips anymore. Even though it is supposed to be glossy and sheer, the color is very pigmented and with one or two swipes, you can already get the result seen in the picture above. It also gives you very glossy and non sticky lips.

They stated that the color is waterproof (suitable to wear at the pool or at the beach), but it comes off your lips like an ordinary lipstick. I think it is due to the lip tint that is in it, that you can keep some color on your lips, even if you enter the water.

I can understand why the color is called Orange Punch. Firstly, because it is introduced for the summer and what is more summer than refreshing cocktails. It also has a very glossy, delicious looking, transparent red orange color that actually looks like that of a glass of orange punch. Strangely enough, it reminds me of the color I mixed with two Peripera peri's tint lip crayons

My opinion:

It wasn't the neon orange that I thought it would be, but at least this is a very, beautiful and wearable color. The exterior may be a bit lacking, but it is the inside that counts and it has not disappointed me. It feels really comfortable on my lips, it has a great color, and it is very moisturizing.

I am thinking of getting the other colors too. ^_^

4 colors: 01 Red Sunrise, 02 Fuchsia Libre, 03 Orange Punch, 04 Peach on the beach.
