Review: Benefit hydrating tinted lip balm - chachabalm

Ever since the release of the Benefit hydrating tinted lip balms, I have been wanting to get one. In the meantime, I found the HEMA Pretty Lips lipglosses as possible cheaper dupes and I considered getting one of the Peripera peri´s Milk and Water balms. But lately, I was able to buy the Benefit hydrating tinted lip balm with a discount, so instead of spending 15,000 won on one of the Peripera lip balms, I bought the original for a similar price. I had a hard time deciding on the color, since I saw that the Benefit hydrating tinted lip balms have very little color pay off in the reviews of other bloggers. I could not decide between the benebalm, which has the darkest color, and the lighter orange chacha balm. But just the word "mango" in the description of the chachabalm, made me decide on this one.

The Benefit chachabalm has a very faint, mango candy scent and flavor that reminds me of the mango candies from the Hong Kong candy store, Aji Ichiban. You mainly smell it, while you apply it on the lips, and it doesn't linger for too long. After a few months, the mango scent sadly disappeared and now, it has a light rose scent.

The Benefit chachabalm comes in a sturdy red box with very pretty, rose gold like swirls.

The Benefit chachabalm has a long tube with a metallic orange finish and pink swirls on the cap. Even though the packaging is made of plastic, it feels very sturdy and the material looks very luxurious. Swatched on the arm, the chachabalm has a very sheer and glossy orange color.

 My opinion

The Benefit chachabalm gives off an oily, but not a heavy (practically weightless!) or uncomfortably sticky layer on the lips. I was surprised by the amazing smooth feeling, when the lips glide over each other. My lips stay soft and glossy for quite a long time.

Regarding the color pay-off, I have to agree with the other bloggers - as even though it is buildable - it doesn't really become fully opaque. At most, you will get a sheer orange glow on your lips. In the pictures, you can see how the Benefit chachabalm looks like on my pigmented lips after 2-3 applications. I do feel that it turns a bit peachier orange on me over time. I am not sure if it is because my own lip color is showing up more or that the lip tint properties in the lip balm is starting to work.

Although $18 is a lot of money for a lip balm that barely gives you any color on the lips, The beautiful packaging and the soft, natural looking lips that you get from it is really worth the splurge. As Christmas is near, why not spoil yourself with this?
