McDonalds summer ice specials: Iced frappé chocolate chip and McFlurry Rocky Road
Yesterday, it was a very hot day in the Netherlands (I think it was about 25℃) and with the intention of getting some ice cream at the McDonalds that happened to be nearby, I saw that they have two new products: the Iced frappé chocolate chip and the McFlurry Rocky Road. They looked very nice, so I ordered them both.
I like that there isn't so much pecan-chocolate sauce that it overpowers the creamy soft-serve ice cream or that it makes it too sweet. Personally, I find the McDonalds chocolate sundae too sweet, so I was a bit worried about that. The pecan in the chocolate sauce makes it slightly taste like caramel or honey, as it really added some depth to it. The mini marshmallows can be tasted in every bite and they are soft and chewy. Overall, you taste the marshmallows more than the pecan-chocolate sauce and the crunchy almond bits. I really like that as it doesn't taste too heavy that way. The light and airiness makes you want to keep eating. The only point of improvement is that the marshmallows don't really have a distinct flavor except for being sweet. It would be nice if they had a stronger fruit or candy flavor.
McDonalds iced frappé - chocolate chip (€2.75, medium size)
It is an ice coffee with crushed ice and little bits of crunchy chocolate, whip cream on top, a mix of caramel and chocolate sauce. I was amazed to discover that it is a more affordable version of my all-time favorite Starbucks Java Chip Frappuccino. It has a light, but distinguishable coffee flavor (a good coffee flavor, but not too bitter due to the sweetness), which is exactly how I like it. I will definitely drink this more often this summer. Hopefully, they will be available until late August.McFlurry Rocky Road (€2.50)
Inside the McFlurry Rocky Road, there are mini marshmallows, crunchy almond bits, and a pecan-chocolate sauce. I needed to wait for some time, as the order went wrong somewhere and I got the new iced fruit smoothie peach-passion fruit instead of the Iced Frappé chocolate chip that I actually ordered. I think it is because they are both new and have the same price, but while I waited, the McFlurry Rocky Road was melting. I am not sure if this influenced the flavor a lot, but I will still share my thoughts about it.I like that there isn't so much pecan-chocolate sauce that it overpowers the creamy soft-serve ice cream or that it makes it too sweet.
