Review: Magnum Mini Mauritshuis collection - white chocolate and pistachio

This winter, Magnum has introduced the Magnum Mini Mauritshuis collection in two different, limited edition flavors: white chocolate & pistachio and milk chocolate & hazelnut. They were inspired by the paintings "The Goldfinch" by Fabritius and "The girl with the pearl earring" by Vermeer, which you can find at the Mauritshuis, a museum in The Hague, the Netherlands.

They are exclusively available at the Albert Heijn supermarkets and the online store. For €3.99, you get a beautiful square box with the painting on the front and with 5 mini chocolate ice cream bars inside.

The "The girl with the pearl earring" ice cream bars have a hazelnut flavored ice cream with pieces of hazelnut and a hazelnut sauce, covered with milk chocolate and "The Goldfinch" ice cream bars have a vanilla ice cream with pieces of pistachio and dark chocolate, covered with white chocolate. Out of the two flavors, I like the sound of white chocolate and pistachio more (Have I ever mentioned that pistachio ice cream is one of my favorite ice cream flavors?). So, I bought a box of the Magnum mini Mauritshuis collection - white chocolate & pistachio.

What do I think?

The white chocolate on the outside was thick and crispy and the vanilla ice cream was very delicious. But the added pistachio nuts and dark chocolate blocks didn't seem to do much for the ice cream bar. Like I experienced before, nuts mixed into ice cream just doesn't stay crispy, so it was chewy and soft. The dark chocolate was nice, but it didn't seem to blend in with the other flavors. It was bitter and not at all sweet, which made it not match with the sweet white chocolate and vanilla ice cream. All in all, I think I would just stick to the Magnum white chocolate ice cream bars or try out the white chocolate almond mini instead.
