Day-after-birthday high tea

I don't know why, but I enjoy the leftover birthday cake that I eat the following day more than on my birthday. Maybe, it is because I am so busy trying to make everyone at my party feel at ease and keeping them entertained that I forget myself, so I cannot fully taste anything I eat. Besides the free cakes and pastries, I also had the following three sweet treats to eat, so you can probably imagine how grand the day-after-birthday high tea was for me.

Conditorei Coppenrath & Wiese black forest gateau deep frozen cake

Conditorei Coppenrath & Wiese black forest gateau,  €2.49

I really like black forest cakes and this looked really delicious, when I spotted it in the freezer section of the Coop supermarket. You didn't think I would have left empty handed, right? Even though, I already had a lot of sweet leftovers from my birthday and I was going to pick up some more, I couldn't help getting this too. It is a small cake, so it was fine (at least, that's what I told myself). After defrosting, I took the cake out of the box and it was then that I read that you were supposed to remove the plastic casing, while the cake was still frozen solid. It was a bit too late, but I somehow managed to get the cake out. The cherries had a nice sourness and the chocolate flavor was reasonable too. However, the chocolate cake part is a bit on the dry side and had a crumbly texture. It tasted better, when I ate it together with the very fine whipped cream.

Sweet treats from the Koekela bakery in Rotterdam

These were leftovers from my birthday on the day before, but they still tasted amazing. The yellow squares are the lemon bars, which are my favorites. It is a very buttery pastry with a strong lemon flavor. It just melts in your mouth. On the left, you can see the Blondie (a golden brown version of the brownie). Inside, there are chunks of white and dark chocolate. Although I like them both for the crunchy exterior and the creamy inside, I prefer the walnut brownie on the right. A rich chocolate fudge brownie with crunchy walnuts, need I say more?

The sweet treats are €1.85 for 100 gram

HEMA herfstmix praline caramel sea salt chocolates

HEMA autumn mix praline and caramel sea salt chocolates

There are three kinds of chocolates: a dark chocolate pumpkin, a milk chocolate walnut, and a milk-white chocolate leaf. The walnut has a praline filling and the pumpkin and the leaf have a liquid, caramel sea salt filling. I like the praline filling more.
