Big Bang's Seungri Burning Sun scandal

From watching Korean drama series and the Korean TV show "We got married", I thought that Koreans were really romantic, shy, and innocent, when it comes to love. Although I already knew that movies are just movies, back in the days when I discovered that Hugh Grant, the ultimate heartthrob in romantic comedies, cheated on his seriously hot girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley, it still came as a shock to me to find out that members from my favorite Kpop groups, Big Bang and CNBLUE, were involved in some serious sex crimes. Seungri and Lee Jong-hyun were my least favorite members, but it is bound to have consequences for the rest of their groups. Other celebrities, Highlight's Yong Jun-hyung, singer Jung Joon-young, FT Island's Choi Jong-hoon, singer Eddy Kim, and singer Roy Kim, were also mentioned.

Initially, it was only rumors of dirty practices (minors, prostitutes, drugs, and rape) that took place in Seungri's partially owned club, Burning Sun, but later on, chats from a KakaoTalk group chatroom were revealed, when supposedly, one of the chatroom members send their mobile phone for repairs. In the private chatroom, lewd pictures and videos - such as drugging and raping an unconscious woman and secretly taking nude pictures of women - and demeaning comments about women were shared. Singer Jung Joon-young has admitted to secretly filming himself having sex with women and sharing it in the chatroom. He was already accused of a similar crime before, but back then, the victim was accused of being a liar, a vindicative ex, and golddigger, after she dropped charges. Things could have been different, if she was believed and properly protected. I also think that this is not that uncommon. There are a lot of men (too many!) that thinks and acts the same way. They somehow view women as lesser than them and think that they are just playtoys that you should not have any feelings for. These toxic beliefs might have come from porn or from men in their lives that are giving them the wrong example. Even women are not supporting women. This all really baffles me, but all the more reason, we should start changing things now. This is not just a scandal. This could be the start of something good. We should discuss this case openly and take out the valuable lessons. Create change and a better world for all of us to live in. Everyone kept telling me to stay optimistic, even when things were bad, and I lived through serious horror just to see that promised, beautiful future. It better happen.
