Christmas 2019 dessert

This is what I made for dessert during Christmas. It has become a yearly custom at our house to try to create a new dessert (some of those experiments went well and some of them failed :)) and this year, I didn't have much time to prepare, as I went on a short trip abroad around that time. I just used things from the freezer and some ready made pies from the supermarket, but it still was a feast on the eyes and for the tastebuds.

As a base, I used the caramel sea salt crumble pies from Lidl. On top, I placed a scoop of the Hertog blueberry cheesecake ice cream. I decorated the pies and the plate with forest fruit that I found in my freezer. The crunchy chocolate crumble on the pies have a nice chocolate and buttery flavor. The goey caramel seasalt filling inside was a tad bit sweet, but the slightly sour blueberry flavor from the ice cream worked well with it. The forest fruit were also a little bit sour, but some powdered sugar on top does the trick.

It is a simple dessert that looks like it took a lot of time and effort to make. So, if you are busy and pressed on time, this is something that you can whip out in no time. Do note that the pies from Lidl are seasonal items that are available during the Christmas period. It is also better to let the forest fruit defrost in the fridge well ahead of time. Or get actual fresh forest fruit, although that may get a bit tricky in the middle of the winter.
