Lavender field in the middle of Rotterdam city center
The lavender roof garden at the Bijenkorf department store wasn't as grand as I expected it to be, but right next to the Markthal, the big covered market hall and one of the tourist attractions in Rotterdam, I discovered this beautiful field of lavender.
In the picture above, you can see the public library building on the left and the Markthal on the right. It is a great spot to take some pictures. In the middle of the lavender field is a wide walking path, where you can stand and have someone take your picture from afar. It will look as if you are standing in the middle of a lavender field without needing to trample any innocent lavender flowers.
After taking the obligatory pictures, you can enjoy the view of the lavender field sitting at the outdoor terrace of one of the many eateries in the Markthal or at the Poffertjessalon Seth for some traditional Dutch sweet treats that looks like mini pancakes.
I really love how they planted lavender flowers with different stages of growth. The resulting gradient shades of purple makes it look like a painting. I almost want to take out some of my purple nail polishes and create ombre nails inspired by this.
Visiting lavender fields in Provence, France or in Furano, Hokkaido, Japan is still on my bucket list, but this is good enough for now.
