Markthal Rotterdam (in construction)

Last week, I visited the Markthal in Rotterdam (the first covered market place in the Netherlands) to see how much of the building was finished already. I am quite interested in architecture and it is great to see that Rotterdam is getting more architectural gems. Previously, I have already mentioned the new Rotterdam Central station and there is also De Rotterdam building, which was designed by Rem Koolhaas.

The outside seem to be almost entirely done, with only here and there some gaps in the facade. I really like the large glass wall, as it makes it possible for natural light to go in.

On the curved ceiling in the inside, you can see a large artwork made by Arno Coenen. It is a large picture showing all the fresh food items that you will be able to get there.

This new market place selling all kinds of fresh food will be open seven days a week, from 9:00 - 20:00. I am already looking forward to the official opening in October 2014.

Update: I have visited the Markthal soon after the opening. You can read the report here
