Benefit chachabalm vs. HEMA Pretty Lips

After buying the Benefit chachabalm, of course, I had to compare it to the HEMA Pretty Lips lipglosses that I thought were possible (and much more affordable!) dupes. The battle is between the Benefit chachabalm and the lightest orange shade of the HEMA Pretty Lips, which is the no. 12 - Fiery Sunset (read my review of it here).

Benefit chachabalm vs. HEMA Pretty Lips

Texture:

The HEMA Pretty Lips has a soft and creamy lipstick bullet that melts very easily. You also have to be very careful with twisting it back in, as some of it can get scraped off on the edges of the lipstick tube. The Benefit chachabalm on the other hand, has a lipstick bullet that is harder, but it is still just as easy to apply. On the lips, the Benefit chachabalm feels slightly oilier, but not in a bad way.

Packaging:

In terms of packaging, the Benefit chachabalm comes in a luxurious box, whereas the HEMA Pretty Lips lip gloss just has a transparent, plastic foil wrapped around it. But at least, you can be sure that nobody has used it before.

The cap of the Benefit chachabalm closes more tightly and has a beautiful snap sound. It also has a pretty orange inside, while the cap of the HEMA Pretty Lips lip gloss is black inside. The Benefit chachabalm has a longer and wider tube with a pretty print on the cap. It makes the HEMA Pretty Lips lipgloss tube look a bit simple and plain in comparison. Due to the matte metallic finish, finger prints are not as noticeable on the HEMA Pretty Lips lip gloss. However, I still prefer the shinier, metallic finish of the Benefit chachabalm, as it just looks more beautiful.

Benefit chachabalm vs. HEMA Pretty Lips comparison

Color:

I have applied the HEMA Pretty Lips lip gloss very lightly in the swatch picture above, in order to make the sheerness of the two lip balms look comparable. It is very clear that the HEMA Pretty Lips has a darker orange color and it is not an exact dupe of the Benefit chachabalm. You can also build up the color of the HEMA Pretty Lips as much as you want, while the Benefit chachabalm stays very light. The HEMA Pretty Lips lip gloss also has a lot more colors to choose from. There are 8 in total (minus one, which is a clear lip balm), whereas the Benefit hydrating tinted lip balm only has 4 colors.

Scent:

Both lip balms have a scent that you can mainly just smell at application and it doesn't linger for a long time. The HEMA Pretty Lips lip glosses have a sweet candy scent, but it can sometimes taste a bit bitter. The Benefit chachabalm has a sweet, mango candy scent that turns into a rose scent later on, and luckily, it doesn't have a bad taste.

Price:

HEMA Pretty Lips lip gloss -  €4.50
Benefit chachabalm - $18 (3g)

My opinion

Aside from the bitter taste that the HEMA Pretty Lips lip glosses can have, both lip balms work quite well and feel great on the lips. I like the color range of the HEMA Pretty Lips a lot and the Benefit chachabalm is a great addition to it. The colors that I picked out in this tinted lip balm battle, do not overlap, so it is quite nice for me to own a lighter orange shade too. I do think that I paid a lot just for the pretty packaging of the Benefit chachabalm.
